The Knight Who Forgot His Name

zombiefrienddogfox

Milo was walking through the Whispering Woods when he saw something strange. A figure shuffled between the trees, moving like a rusty robot. Milo's dog, Barnaby, gave a curious woof and wagged his tail.

"Hello?" Milo called out.

The figure turned slowly. It was a person, but they walked like a zombie—stiff and slow, arms stretched forward, eyes looking nowhere.

"I... I..." the zombie said, then stopped. He didn't seem scary. He seemed lost.

Suddenly, a fox leaped from a bush! "He's under a Forgetfulness Spell!" she announced. The fox had the brightest orange fur Milo had ever seen. "I'm Fiona. This knight forgot everything—even his own name!"

Milo gasped. "A knight?"

Fiona nodded. "Brave Sir Rowan, protector of the forest. But the Shadow Witch cast a spell on him. Now he shuffles like a zombie until someone helps him remember!"

Barnaby barked excitedly and nudged the knight's hand. The knight's eyes cleared for a moment. "Dog..." he whispered. "I had a dog..."

"What was your dog's name?" Milo asked gently.

The knight's face scrunched up. "Barnaby," he said softly. Milo's own Barnaby gave a happy yip!

Fiona danced around them. "Keep going! What else do you remember?"

"I... I protected the forest," the knight said, his voice growing stronger. "I rescued animals. I made friends everywhere. My friend was... a fox!" He looked at Fiona. "You have fur like Ember!"

"Ember was my grandmother!" Fiona cried joyfully. "You're remembering!"

The knight stood tall. The zombie-stiffness melted away like snow in spring. "I'm Sir Rowan," he said clearly. "And I need to say thank you." He knelt down so he was eye-to-eye with Milo. "You helped me when everyone else was afraid. You're the true knight."

Milo blushed. "I was just being a friend."

"And that," said Sir Rowan, "is the bravest thing of all."

That day, Milo gained two new friends: a clever fox and a knight who had once been a zombie. And Barnaby? Well, Barnaby gained the best adventure buddy ever.

Sometimes, Milo discovered, the things that seem scary at first are really just friends waiting to be found.
