The Kind Zombie's Magic Hat

Lily loved her garden more than anything in the world. Every morning, she would skip outside with her bright yellow watering can to visit her flower friends. But there was one corner of the garden where she never went – the place where the old zombie statue stood.

Everyone said the zombie was scary. He sat frozen on a stone bench, his arms stretched out like he wanted something but could never reach it. His stone eyes looked sad, not mean. Lily wondered about him.

One hot summer day, Lily noticed the zombie looked especially dusty and lonely. His stone skin was cracked from the sun. Without thinking, she dipped her hand into her watering can and let cool water splash onto the zombie's face.

"You look thirsty," she said softly.

Something magical happened. The water made the zombie's stone skin shimmer and sparkle. His eyes blinked! Slowly, carefully, the zombie stretched his arms and smiled the gentlest smile Lily had ever seen.

"Thank you," the zombie rumbled softly. "I've been waiting for someone kind enough to share water with me. I'm not scary – I'm just the garden guardian!"

Lily gasped in wonder. The zombie wasn't scary at all! He was actually very friendly. But he still looked sad about something.

"What's wrong?" Lily asked.

The zombie pointed to his head. "I lost my magic hat years ago. Without it, I can't make the flowers grow special and strong."

Lily's eyes lit up. She ran to her room and grabbed her favorite sun hat – bright purple with flowers all around it. She placed it carefully on the zombie's head.

"Will this work?"

The zombie beamed. Suddenly, colorful sparkles burst from the hat! All around the garden, flowers began to bloom bigger and brighter than ever before. Butterflies danced in the air, and the trees swayed with happiness.

"Thank you, Lily," the zombie said. "You taught everyone something important – never judge someone by how they look. Kindness and friendship are the strongest magic of all."

From that day on, Lily and the zombie gardened together. And whenever anyone walked by and looked scared, Lily would just smile and wave, knowing her friend was the kindest guardian a garden could ever have.
