The iPhone That Flew to Egypt

Lily loved her old iPhone. It didn't make calls anymore, but she used it to take pictures of bugs and flowers in her garden. One sunny afternoon, she was taking photos near the old fish pond when something magical happened. She aimed her camera at a dragonfly, but the screen showed something else entirely.

"Whoa!" Lily whispered. Through her iPhone screen, she saw a golden desert with two enormous pointy shapes. "A pyramid!" she gasped. "And another one! And look—that's a sphinx!"

The sphinx on her screen winked at her. Suddenly, a swirly blue light popped out of the iPhone screen. It spun faster and faster until WHOOSH! Lily felt light as a feather, and when she opened her eyes, she wasn't in her garden anymore.

Soft, warm sand tickled her toes. Before her rose the grandest pyramid she had ever seen, gleaming like honey in the sun. Beside it sat the sphinx, but this one wasn't made of stone. Its lion body had golden fur, and its human face smiled kindly.

"Welcome, young friend," said the sphinx in a voice like gentle thunder. "I am Serafina, guardian of the Pyramid of Wishes. We've been waiting for someone with a pure heart."

Lily's eyes went wide. "Me? But I'm just a kid who likes taking pictures!"

Serafina chuckled. "That's exactly why. You notice the small beauties others miss. Come, I need your help. The sacred water spring inside the pyramid has stopped flowing. Without water, the pyramid's magic will fade."

Lily's heart beat fast, but she nodded bravely. "I'll help!"

Inside the pyramid was cooler and sparkly with hieroglyphs that glowed softly. They followed a winding passage until they reached a beautiful underground chamber. In the center was a pool where water should have been dancing and splashing, but it was completely dry.

"The water forgot how to flow," Serafina said sadly. "It needs someone to believe in magic to wake it up."

Lily thought hard. Back home, whenever the kitchen sink got clogged, her dad would tap the pipes and tell them encouraging words. She knelt by the dry pool and tapped the stone edge gently.

"Hey water," she said softly. "I know you're in there. The flowers need you. The Sphinx needs you. Even the thirsty camels outside need you. Please come out and play?"

She closed her eyes and imagined water—cool, splashing, happy water. Drip by drop, sparkling blue water began to seep from the rocks. Then came a trickle, then a stream, and soon the whole pool was bubbling and laughing like a happy brook!

"You did it!" Serafina cheered, doing a little dance. "Your imagination woke up the water!"

The Sphinx hugged Lily gently. "For your kindness and bravery, take this." She pressed a small blue stone into Lily's hand. "Whenever you need a splash of magic, just hold it and remember—you have the power to make wonderful things happen."

Serafina touched Lily's forehead with her paw. WHOOSH! In a blink, Lily was back in her garden, her iPhone in hand. The dragonfly buzzed nearby as if nothing had happened.

But in her pocket, the blue stone was warm and real. And from that day on, whenever Lily took pictures with her iPhone, she caught glimpses of magical things no one else could see—a splash of pyramids in the clouds, the shape of a sphinx in a pile of leaves, tiny water droplets dancing like fairies in the morning light.

Lily smiled, snapping a photo of a dewdrop. Real magic, she discovered, was everywhere—you just had to know how to look for it.
