The iPhone's Hidden Door
Lily loved her shiny blue iPhone more than anything in the world. Every day after school, she'd tap and swipe its glowing screen, lost in a world of games and videos. But one rainy Tuesday, something strange happened.
As Lily touched her screen, it didn't show her usual apps. Instead, it shimmered like morning dew on a spiderweb, and her finger passed right through it! Before she could gasp, her faithful dog Barnaby—a golden retriever with a heart-shaped patch on his nose—bounded over and jumped into the glowing screen after her.
They tumbled into a meadow unlike any Lily had seen. The grass was purple and hummed with tiny bells when they walked. Flowers that looked like upside-down umbrellas twinkled like stars. Suddenly, a massive bull with a coat like sunset clouds—orange, pink, and gold—appeared from behind a singing tree.
"You must be the visitors," the bull said kindly. "I've been waiting three hundred years for someone brave enough to find the hidden door in the glowing rectangle."
Lily's eyes widened. "You can talk?"
"Many things talk here," the bull smiled. "Most children from your world are too busy looking at their screens to notice when the screens come alive. But you—you were curious."
The bull lowered his head. "Climb on, little one. And bring your brave dog. There's something I must show you."
Lily and Barnaby climbed onto the bull's broad back. With a gentle snort, he leaped into the sky! They soared over candy-cane mountains and rivers that flowed with lemonade. The wind sang songs in Lily's ears.
"Your world has forgotten magic," the bull said as they flew. "But magic hasn't forgotten your world. Every screen, every device—they're all doors if you know how to look."
As they landed back in the purple meadow, the bull touched Lily's forehead with his velvety nose. "Remember: the best magic isn't on the screen. It's in the world around you, in adventures with friends, and in kindness to strangers."
With a wink, the bull pushed them both toward a shimmering portal. Lily and Barnaby tumbled through...
...and landed back on Lily's bed, her iPhone beside them. Had it been a dream? But Barnaby's fur smelled of purple meadow grass, and Lily's pocket held something new—a tiny silver bell that chimed like the singing meadow.
From that day on, Lily still loved her iPhone, but she loved real adventures even more. And sometimes, when the light hit her screen just right, she'd see a tiny bull with a sunset coat wink back at her.
