The iPhone and the Friendly Zombie
Lily loved swimming more than anything in the world. Every Saturday, she'd race to the community pool, her yellow towel flapping behind her like a superhero cape. But this Saturday was different—her dad had given her his old iPhone to take pictures of her amazing underwater adventures.
Splashing into the cool blue water, Lily felt like a mermaid. She swam deeper and deeper, holding the iPhone carefully to capture the magical light patterns dancing on the pool bottom. Suddenly, a strange green figure floated past!
Lily gasped, nearly dropping the phone. It looked like a zombie! But instead of being scary, this zombie had sad, friendly eyes and was made entirely of pool noodles and flutterboard pieces.
"Hello," the zombie bubbled through its pool noodle mouth. "I'm Zelly the Pool Zombie. I'm not scary—I'm just lonely!"
Lily's fear melted away like ice cream on a hot day. "I'm Lily! Want to see my iPhone? It takes amazing pictures!"
Zelly had never seen a smartphone before. Together, they took silly underwater selfies—Lily grinning widely and Zelly making noodle-y faces. They played tag, raced from one end of the pool to the other, and even created a synchronized swimming routine.
"I thought everyone would be scared of me because I look like a zombie," Zelly said sadly. "But you're my friend anyway."
Lily hugged her noodle-y friend. "That's what my mom says—true friends see what's in your heart, not how you look. You're the best swimming buddy ever!"
When it was time to leave, Lily promised to return every Saturday. She climbed out of the pool, dripping and happy, her iPhone filled with pictures of her unexpected adventure. Some people might think zombies are scary, but Lily knew better—sometimes the most different-looking friends have the biggest hearts.
And every Saturday after that, Lily and Zelly would meet in the pool, swimming and laughing together, proving that friendship can bloom anywhere, even between a girl and a pool noodle zombie.
