The Hat That Spied on Stars
Leo loved his grandmother's attic. It smelled like cinnamon and secrets. One rainy afternoon, he found a velvet hat tucked inside an old trunk. It was deep blue with silver stars.
"What's this?" Leo whispered, putting it on.
Suddenly, he could see glowing creatures everywhere! Tiny winged mice danced in the corners. A rabbit with rainbow fur hopped over a dusty book. Leo gasped—the hat was magic! It let him spy on invisible worlds hiding in plain sight.
Outside, a storm brewed. Lightning flashed like a camera snapping pictures of the sky. Leo followed the glowing creatures into the meadow, where he found the most surprising sight of all.
A bull sat by the old oak tree. But this wasn't an ordinary bull. His horns were made of twisted lightning bolts, and his coat shimmered like moonlight on water. He looked sad.
"I'm stuck here," the bull said in a voice like distant thunder. "I fell from the stars during last night's meteor shower. I need lightning energy to fly home again."
Leo's heart raced. The hat showed him something amazing—the bull's glow was fading, like a flashlight with dying batteries. He needed help, fast!
"I know what to do!" Leo remembered. "My grandmother grows magic tomatoes. She says they're like a vitamin for the soul!"
He raced home, returned with a basket of glowing orange tomatoes, and fed them to the star bull. With each bite, the bull's light grew stronger. His lightning horns crackled with energy.
"Thank you, small friend," the bull said. "Will you ride with me?"
Leo climbed onto the bull's back. They soared into the stormy sky, zigzagging through bolts of lightning that charged the bull's horns. Higher and higher they flew, past clouds and into the velvet night.
When Leo returned home, the hat was just a hat again. But he didn't mind. Some magic, he realized, doesn't need a special hat. The best magic is kindness—and making new friends, even ones who fall from stars.
That night, Leo looked out his window. A faint star-shaped patch of light twinkled above the oak tree. The star bull was home, but Leo knew they'd be friends forever.
