The Hat That Saw With Heart

hatbullfriend

Lily discovered the old velvet hat in her grandmother's attic. It was deep purple with silver stars around the brim, and when she put it on, the world seemed to sparkle differently.

That night, Lily wore the hat in her backyard under the full moon. The stars danced above, and suddenly, a magnificent creature stepped out from behind the old oak tree - a huge bull with a coat like midnight sky and golden horns that glowed softly.

Lily's heart beat fast, but the hat whispered in her mind: *Look with your heart, not just your eyes.*

"Hello," said Lily softly. "Are you real?"

The bull's voice was like thunder wrapped in velvet. "I am Barnaby, and I am very real - and very lonely. Everyone runs from me because I'm a bull. They think I'm fierce."

But Lily saw the sadness in his gentle brown eyes. "I'm Lily, and I'm lonely too. I just moved here and haven't made any friends."

Barnaby lowered his massive head. "Would you like to see the world from up high? My friend?"

Lily climbed onto the bull's broad back, and they soared through the night sky! They raced the wind across fields of fireflies that twinkled like tiny lanterns. They visited secret meadows where flowers sang lullabies. They splashed through streams that giggled like children.

"I'm not scary at all," Barnaby said proudly. "I'm the guardian of forgotten dreams!"

"And you're my best friend," Lily said, hugging his neck.

As dawn approached, Barnaby returned Lily to her yard. "I must go back to the stars now. But whenever you wear the hat, think of me, and I'll feel it."

He touched his nose to her forehead - *POOF* - he became the constellation Taurus in the sky.

Lily kept the hat forever. And sometimes, when she wore it at night, she'd feel a warm, bull-sized nuzzle on her cheek, reminding her that the best friends are the ones who see you with their heart.
