The Hat That Changed Everything
Leo tugged his favorite red hat down over his ears. It was too small, but he wore it everywhere. Today, he was heading to the old baseball field behind his house, where he'd found something strange.
There, near home plate, lay a long black cable that seemed to stretch up into the clouds. Leo followed it, curious as always. The cable wound through the woods, past the creek, and up Starlight Hill until it disappeared into a golden glow.
At the top of the hill sat the biggest bull Leo had ever seen. But this wasn't scary—this bull was crying.
"What's wrong?" Leo asked, forgetting his fear.
The bull sniffled. "I lost my baseball. It's actually a fallen star, and I was supposed to catch it before it hit the ground. But I missed, and now it's lost somewhere down there."
Leo's eyes widened. He'd seen something shiny near the creek!
"I think I know where it is!" Leo said. "But how will you reach it?"
The bull looked at Leo's red hat. "That hat... it looks magical. If you believe it can help you fly, then it will."
Leo didn't question this. He simply believed. He pulled his hat tight, imagined soaring like a bird, and suddenly—WHOOSH!—he was gliding down the hill, the cable guiding his path.
He found the star beside the creek, glowing softly. It was shaped exactly like a baseball!
When Leo returned, the bull caught the star in his huge hooves. It shot back up into the sky, twinkling brighter than ever.
"Thank you," the bull said. "You believed in magic and helped a stranger. That's the bravest thing anyone can do."
Leo's hat didn't feel small anymore. It felt perfect.
That night, a new star appeared above the hill—the one Leo had returned. And sometimes, when he wore his red hat, he could hear the bull playing baseball among the stars.
