The Halloween Garden Surprise

Luna the black cat crept through the garden on Halloween night. Her best friend Barnaby, a golden retriever with a heart bigger than his paws, trotted beside her. The moonlight made Luna's fur shine like tiny stars.

They reached the old palm tree at the edge of the garden. Its leaves swished in the breeze like whispered secrets. Every Halloween, something magical happened here.

"I hear something," Barnaby whispered, his tail wagging slowly.

From behind the palm tree emerged a small green figure with patchy clothes and messy hair. It was a zombie! But this zombie didn't look scary at all. He looked lonely, holding a wilted pumpkin in his bumpy hands.

Luna's ears perked up. Instead of running away, she stepped forward. The zombie looked surprised.

"I'm Zombo," he squeaked in a voice that sounded like dry leaves crunching. "Everyone runs away from me. Even on Halloween, when I'm supposed to fit in."

Barnaby bounded over and gave Zombo's hand a friendly lick. "You don't look scary. You look like you need a friend."

Zombo's eyes widened. No one had ever been nice to him before. Luna rubbed against his leg, purring softly.

"My pumpkin died," Zombo said sadly. "I wanted to give it to someone as a gift, but I forgot to water it."

Luna had an idea. She dug a small hole beneath the palm tree while Barnaby found a fresh pumpkin from the garden patch. Together, they showed Zombo how to plant it properly.

"Water it with love," Luna said. "And patience."

The three friends sat together under the palm tree, sharing stories and watching the stars. Zombo learned that friendship, like plants, needs care to grow.

Every Halloween after that, Luna, Barnaby, and Zombo celebrated together under the palm tree. And the pumpkin? It grew into the biggest, brightest pumpkin anyone had ever seen.

Luna learned something important that night: sometimes the scariest-looking things just need a little kindness. And true friends see with their hearts, not their eyes.
