The Hair Heist

Maya's hair looked like a crime scene — purple dye splattered across her forehead, the bathroom mirror witnessing her latest DIY disaster. Her parents' anniversary dinner started in two hours, and she was currently resembling a grape that had been through a blender.

"Bro, this is totally not chill," she groaned, FaceTiming her bestie Kai. The Wi-Fi cut out mid-panic attack. Of course. Their ancient router had been dying for weeks.

Maya found herself running through the house at 11 PM — not from ghosts, but toward her brother's room. He was asleep, totally oblivious to the emergency unfolding. His gaming setup had the good ethernet cable, the one that actually reached the living room where the router lived.

The heist began. Maya crept across his floor like a ninja in fuzzy socks, carefully unplugged the cable from his PS5, and immediately bolted toward the door. Halfway down the hallway, she heard it — the creak of floorboards behind her.

"MAYA?" Her brother's voice echoed through the darkness. "What are you doing with my cable?"

She froze, then made a split-second decision. Running now, sprinting toward her room like her life depended on it. The cable snaked behind her like a neon blue tail through the darkness.

"I NEED TO FIX MY HAIR DISASTER," she shouted over her shoulder. "I'm watching a tutorial!"

He caught up to her doorway, still half-asleep but frowning. "You couldn't just ask?"

"It's a crisis! Look at me!" She pointed to her purple-streaked face.

He sighed, rubbing his eyes. "Fine. But you're running to the store tomorrow to buy me my own cable. And you're helping me set it up."

"Deal." Maya grinned, finally connecting to stable Wi-Fi. "You're the best, little bro."

"You're literally five minutes older than me," he muttered, walking away.

Three tutorial videos later, Maya's hair was saved. The dinner went perfectly. And somewhere in the chaos, she'd actually bonded with her brother over a midnight cable heist. Weird how life worked like that.
