The Green Smile Debacle

Jordan's phone buzzed with the notification that changed everything: *Pool party @ Marcus's. 2 PM. Be there or be square.*

She'd been crushing on Marcus since seventh period algebra, and this was her chance. After three hours of overthinking, Jordan settled on her favorite black bikini—the one that made her feel confident but not trying too hard. Her mom, in one of her health kicks, had forced a spinach smoothie on Jordan right before she left. "It'll give you glowing skin!" she'd promised. Jordan drank it in one gulp, desperate for any advantage.

The party was already popping when she arrived. Marcus's backyard pool gleamed under the June sun, and literally everyone who was anyone was there. Jordan spotted her crush immediately—Marcus, shirtless, standing near the deep end. Her stomach did that nervous flip thing it always did when he was nearby.

She spent the next hour hovering at the pool's edge, trying to look chill while mentally hyping herself up to say something—anything—to him. Every time she got close, her confidence crumbled.

"Hey Jordan!" Marcus finally called, waving her over. "Want to play chicken?"

This was it. Her moment. She smoothed her hair and headed toward him, finally feeling ready to make her move. But as she opened her mouth to respond, someone's cat—an orange tabby that belonged to Marcus's little sister—came streaking out of nowhere, chased by three screaming kids.

Jordan jumped, slipped on wet concrete, and nearly face-planted. Marcus reached out to steady her, laughing. "Whoa, you okay?"

"I'm good!" she said, flashing her most confident smile. "Just wasn't expecting that cat to come running through like it owned the place."

Marcus stared at her for a second, then started laughing. Hard.

"What?" Jordan asked, her face burning.

"You have..." He pointed at his own teeth. "Like, seriously green spinach stuck all in your teeth."

The ground needed to open up and swallow her whole. Immediately.

But then Marcus was still laughing, but not in a mean way. He moved closer. "Actually, it's kinda adorable. And brave. Most people would've been terrified to talk to me with spinach teeth."

Jordan couldn't help it—she started laughing too. "Is that your way of saying you noticed me even before I embarrassed myself?"

"Maybe," he grinned. "Or maybe I'm just saying you should probably go check a mirror before you bear that smile to anyone else."

As Jordan headed toward the bathroom, mortified but weirdly hopeful, she caught him watching her go. Sometimes the most embarrassing moments ended up being the ones that changed everything.
