The Green Magic Spell
Lily hated the green stuff on her plate. "Eat your spinach," Grandma said with a wink. "It's not regular spinach. It's from the magic garden."
Lily sighed and took a bite. Suddenly, her skin started glowing green! She felt lighter, like she could float. Grandma laughed. "Now try your swimming lesson!"
At the pool, Lily dove in. But instead of coming up for air, she kept going down—deeper, deeper, deeper. The water didn't feel wet anymore. It felt like soft silk.
Below the pool's bottom, she discovered a secret door. Behind it swam a pale green creature with seaweed hair and kind, sparkly eyes. It looked like what people called a zombie, but it wasn't scary at all.
"Hello, little one," the zombie said gently. "I'm the Guardian. I've been waiting for someone brave enough to find me."
Lily wasn't afraid. The spinach magic made her feel brave. "Are you lonely?"
"Sometimes," the Guardian admitted. "People think I'm scary because I look different. But I only want to protect the ocean's secrets."
Lily smiled. "I'm not scared. I think you're beautiful!"
The zombie's eyes sparkled brighter. "Thank you. As a gift, I'll show you something special."
They swam together through coral caves painted with colors Lily had never seen—rainbow fish, glowing jellyfish, and pearls that sang like tiny bells. The zombie wasn't scary at all; he was kind, lonely, and wonderful.
"Will you come back?" he asked when it was time to leave.
"Every week!" Lily promised.
Back at the surface, Lily hugged Grandma. "The spinach isn't yucky. It's magic!"
Grandma smiled knowingly. "Magic helps us see the truth—that things that seem scary might just be lonely, and that the best adventures start with being brave enough to try something new."
Now Lily eats her spinach every week, ready for her next swimming adventure with her friend, the beautiful zombie guardian of the deep.
