Lila loved being a spy. Every afternoon, she'd grab her magnifying glass and sneak through her backyard, searching for mysteries. Her little brother Sam tagged along, carrying their detective notebook.
One Tuesday, they made a discovery. In Grandma's garden, something strange was happening. The spinach plants weren't just growing – they were glowing! Tiny sparkles danced around the emerald leaves like fireflies.
"We need to investigate," Lila whispered, adjusting her pretend spy glasses.
Grandma appeared with her gardening cable, ready to tie up the climbing tomato plants. She caught Lila and Sam examining the glowing spinach.
"Ah, you've discovered the secret," Grandma said with a wink. "This isn't ordinary spinach. It's magic spinach from the Vitamin Valley."
"Vitamin Valley?" Sam asked, eyes wide.
Grandma nodded. "Far away, where rainbow rivers flow, there's a valley where vegetables have special powers. This spinach gives you the vitamin of courage – the bravery to try new things and help others."
Lila frowned. "But I'm scared of the dark. And Sam is afraid of swimming."
"Exactly why you need it!" Grandma laughed. "But remember – true courage comes from your heart, not from magic vegetables. The spinach just helps you remember what's already inside you."
That evening, Lila and Sam tried the spinach salad. That night, when a storm made the lights go out, Lila didn't hide under her covers. Instead, she grabbed her flashlight and found Sam, who was trembling in his room.
"Don't worry," she said, her voice steady. "We'll be brave together."
They sang songs and told stories until the power returned. Sam even tried swimming lessons the next week.

Lila smiled. "Or maybe we just needed to remember we were brave all along."
