The Goldfish Who Woke Up
Leo's goldfish, Glub, was the sleepiest fish in the world. All day long, he just floated near the top of his bowl, barely moving. His eyes would droop closed, and he'd drift like a little orange leaf.
"He's like a zombie fish," Leo's big sister said. "He never does anything!"
Leo sighed. He loved Glub anyway.
One evening, when the moon rose bright orange in the sky, Leo heard a splash from the backyard. He peeked outside and gasped.
Where the old kiddie pool usually sat, something magical had appeared. A glowing orange pool shimmered with stardust, rippling with tiny waves that sparkled like diamonds.
Leo carefully carried Glub's bowl outside. Something about the orange moon made him feel brave.
"Go on, Glub," he whispered. "Try swimming for real."
He tipped his goldfish gently into the magical pool.
SPLOSH!
Glub hit the water—and something incredible happened. His orange scales began to glow. His fins fluttered like butterfly wings. The zombie-like fish was gone!
Glub swam faster than any fish had ever swum before. He zoomed in circles, leaped into the air, and created splashes that turned into tiny rainbows.
Leo laughed and reached his hand into the glowing water. To his amazement, he could swim too—even without learning! The orange pool filled him with warm, happy feelings, like sunshine wrapped around his heart.
They played together until the orange moon began to fade. As Glub grew sleepy again, Leo scooped him up and carried him back to his bowl.
Glub settled back into his usual floating position, looking almost zombie-like again. But now, when Leo looked closely, he saw a tiny sparkle in Glub's eye.
The secret was safe between them. Every orange moon, the magical pool would return. And the sleepiest goldfish in the world would wake up for one more night of swimming and splashing under the stars.
Sometimes the most magical friends are the ones who surprise you.
