The Goldfish Who Swam Through Screens
Ten-year-old Leo loved his iPhone more than anything. He played games, watched videos, and chatted with friends, barely noticing the world around him. Even his pet goldfish, Finnegan, seemed boring compared to the glowing screen.
One rainy afternoon, Leo was playing a fishing game on his iPhone while sitting beside Finnegan's bowl. "This is way more fun than watching you swim in circles," Leo told his orange fish.
Finnegan swished his tail and blew bubbles that somehow spelled "WATCH THIS."
Curious, Leo leaned closer. Suddenly, his phone slipped from his fingers and plunged right into the fishbowl!
"Oh no!" Leo cried. But before he could reach in, something magical happened. Finnegan swam straight toward the sinking iPhone and disappeared right through the screen!
Leo gasped. Through the phone's waterproof glass, he could see Finnegan swimming in an underwater kingdom - but not regular water. It was glowing blue water filled with tiny digital fish, magical coral reefs made of emojis, and treasure chests overflowing with golden fish food.
Finnegan's face appeared on the screen. "Want to play?" bubbled the text.
Leo pressed "YES" and suddenly felt himself shrinking smaller and smaller until he slipped through the screen too!
Inside, the water was warm and sparkled with tiny lights. Finnegan showed Leo games you couldn't download - tag with lightning-fast dartfish, treasure hunts through coral caves, and races riding on the backs of gentle seahorses. But the best part was just swimming together and talking.
"I never knew you were so adventurous!" Leo laughed, doing underwater somersaults.
"I never knew you'd put down your phone to play with a real friend," Finnegan replied wisely.
Leo felt his cheeks grow warm. Finnegan was right. All this time, his best friend had been swimming right beside him.
When they finally returned to Leo's room, the iPhone worked perfectly. But Leo didn't turn it on. Instead, he pulled his chair up to the fishbowl and spent the afternoon reading stories aloud to Finnegan, making up adventures together, and discovering that the best magic wasn't inside a screen at all.
That night, Leo gave Finnegan an extra pinch of food. "Real friends are better than any app," he whispered. Finnegan blew a heart-shaped bubble in return.
