The Goldfish Who Swam Through Screens
Leo had the messiest hair in class—a wild, tangled mop the color of autumn leaves that stuck up in every direction. But his hair wasn't the most interesting thing about him. That honor belonged to Goldie, his pet goldfish.
One ordinary Tuesday, Leo's iPhone slipped from his hands and landed with a splash inches from Goldie's bowl. Leo gasped and reached for it, but something magical happened. Goldie swam to the edge of her bowl, pressed her nose against the glass, and suddenly, Leo's phone screen rippled like water.
"Hello, Leo!" said Goldie's voice, tiny and bubbly, floating from the phone's speaker.
Leo nearly dropped the phone again. "You can TALK?"
"Only when your phone gets close enough," Goldie said, her scales shimmering like tiny sequins. "Leo, I have a secret. I'm not just any goldfish. I'm a guardian of the Pond of Dreams, and someone has stolen the Magic Orange that keeps the waters glowing!"
Leo's eyes widened. "You're... a magical fish?"
Goldie nosed at the glass. "Will you help me? The Orange is hidden somewhere in your house. I can feel its magic fading!"
Leo didn't hesitate. He grabbed a small net and scooped Goldie gently into a water-filled jar. "Let's go!"
They searched everywhere—under beds, inside closets, even behind the cereal boxes. Finally, in the darkest corner of the basement, Leo found it: a small, glowing orange sphere hidden inside an old treasure chest.
"The Magic Orange!" Goldie bubbled happily. "Leo, you saved us!"
But as Leo lifted it, he noticed a tiny tear rolling down Goldie's cheek. "What's wrong?"
"This Orange..." Goldie whispered, "it grants one wish to whoever finds it. And I've been so lonely in that little bowl. I miss my friends in the Pond of Dreams."
Leo looked at the glowing fruit, then at his new friend. The choice was easy.
"I wish," Leo said softly, "that Goldie can go home to her Pond of Dreams, and visit me anytime she wants!"
The Orange burst into sparkles. In a flash, Leo found himself standing beside a beautiful pond filled with hundreds of glowing fish. Goldie leaped from his jar into the water, growing larger and more magnificent.
"Thank you, Leo!" she called, her voice like wind chimes. "You're the truest friend I've ever known!"
From that day on, whenever Leo's iPhone got near water, Goldie would appear on screen, sharing stories of her magical world and reminding him that the best magic of all is the magic of friendship.
