The Goldfish Who Swam Through Screens

Lily was sitting on her bed when something magical happened. Her pet goldfish, Glimmer, floated right out of his bowl and hovered in the air like a tiny orange balloon!

"Lily!" Glimmer spoke in a voice like bubbles popping. "My underwater kingdom needs your help! The Great Shadow is covering all the coral, and nothing can grow!"

Lily's eyes grew wide. "But how can I help? I can't breathe underwater!"

Glimmer swam circles around her iPhone, which was sitting on her blanket. "Touch your phone," he bubbled. "But you must be running when you do it! That's the magic key!"

Lily grabbed her iPhone and started running in place beside her bed. Her fingers tapped the screen, and suddenly—RIPPLE! The glass turned into water!

Through the screen, she could see an entire ocean kingdom. The coral was gray and drooping. Fish were hiding in dark corners. Everything looked sad.

"Hold my fin!" Glimmer called. Lily reached through the watery screen, and suddenly she could breathe! She and Glimmer dove through the iPhone together, spinning through rainbow bubbles until they landed on soft sand.

"The Great Shadow comes from outside our world," Glimmer explained. "It's not magic—it's something from above!"

Lily looked up and gasped. Thick black clouds covered the ocean's surface, blocking all sunlight. No wonder nothing could grow!

"I know what to do!" Lily realized. "In my world, we learned that plants need light to make food. The ocean plants are the same!"

She thought hard. Her iPhone was still in her hand, glowing with magical light. "What if…?"

Lily opened her photo app and found the brightest pictures she had—a sunny beach, a rainbow, her mother's garden. She touched each one, and suddenly the images projected into the water like moving sunshine!

The coral began to shimmer. Seaweed stretched toward the light. Little fish peeked out from their hiding places.

"It's working!" Glimmer cheered. "But we need more! Keep running, Lily—the magic is in your movement!"

Lily ran through the water, leaving trails of sparkles behind her. Every photo she shared became real light that pushed away the shadows. Soon, the whole kingdom was glowing with color again.

"Thank you, Lily," Glimmer said, hugging her with his fins. "You saved us!"

"But how will I get home?" Lily asked.

"Your iPhone!" Glimmer reminded her. "But remember—you must be running!"

Lily ran through the water toward her phone's glowing screen. She popped through into her bedroom, dripping wet but smiling.

Glimmer was back in his bowl, blowing happy bubbles. But now, whenever Lily looked at her iPhone, she could see the ocean kingdom shining inside it, colorful and alive.

And sometimes, when she was running through the park, she'd see a ripple in the air, like a doorway waiting to open.

The best adventures, Lily learned, are the ones you run toward with an open heart.
