The Goldfish Who Swam Through Lightning

Lily had always wanted a friend. She had toys and books and a cozy room with orange curtains, but no one to share her adventures with. Then came the day everything changed.

It was a stormy afternoon when her uncle brought her a small glass bowl. Inside swam the most beautiful goldfish Lily had ever seen. His scales shimmered like sunset clouds.

"His name is Finn," said her uncle with a wink. "But there's something special about him. You'll see."

Lily pressed her nose against the glass. "Hello, Finn," she whispered. "Will you be my friend?"

That night, a brilliant flash of lightning crackled outside her window. The room turned bright as day for one magical moment. Lily's orange curtains glowed like fire, and something amazing happened.

Finn began to glow.

The little goldfish swam in circles, creating tiny sparkles in his water. Then, impossibly, he rose—floating right out of his bowl! A trail of orange light followed him like a comet's tail.

"Lily!" Finn said in a bubbly voice. "The lightning gave me magic! Now I can swim through air! Let's be friends and have adventures!"

Lily's eyes widened. "A talking fish! A magical friend!" She clapped her hands. "Where shall we go?"

Finn swam around her room, touching her toys with his nose. Each one came to life—a stuffed bear danced, her storybook opened by itself, and her toy car zoomed across the floor.

"Every night," Finn said, "we'll have magical adventures. But you must keep our friendship secret. Some grown-ups don't believe in magic."

"I promise," Lily said, sealing it with a pinky swear to Finn's fin.

From that night on, whenever lightning flashed across the sky, Finn would swim through the air with Lily, and together they discovered that the best friends aren't always the ones you expect—but the ones who believe in magic with you.

And Lily was never lonely again, because she had learned something wonderful: true friendship, like lightning, can strike when you least expect it, and it fills your world with light.
