The Goldfish Who Swam Through Cables

Lily loved her pet goldfish, Splash. He was the most ordinary-looking fish you could imagine—orange scales, googly eyes, and a tiny mouth that opened and closed like a little 'O'. But Lily knew something magical about Splash. Whenever she played Zombie Adventure on her iPhone, Splash would swim to the corner of his bowl closest to her and watch the screen with what looked like genuine interest.

One rainy afternoon, Lily's charging cable lay across her desk, stretched from the wall to her nightstand. She was about to plug in her phone when she accidentally knocked Splash's bowl. Water splashed everywhere, and somehow Splash slipped right onto her desk.

"Splash!" Lily cried. But before she could reach for him, something impossible happened. Splash didn't flop like a fish out of water. Instead, he swam—right through the air! He glided toward the charging cable and then, with a sparkle of blue light, swam right INTO it.

Lily gasped. Her iPhone screen flickered. Suddenly, a tiny orange fish appeared inside her Zombie Adventure game, swimming through the pixelated forest. The zombie characters stopped chasing the main character. Instead, they gathered around the glowing fish, mesmerized.

"They're not scary," Lily whispered, watching in wonder. "They just wanted a friend."

The zombies began to dance, their pixelated arms waving joyfully. Splash had brought them to life with his magic. Lily reached toward the screen, and her finger passed right through it. She tumbled—*whoosh!*—into a world made of watercolors and starlight.

"You found us!" cheered a zombie girl with purple pigtails. "We've been so lonely in this game forever."

Splash swam around Lily's head in a happy circle. The water from his bowl had created a bridge between worlds, and the charging cable had become a magical rainbow.

"Will you play with us?" the zombies asked. "We promise not to act scary. We just want to have fun!"

Lily spent the afternoon playing tag with zombie children, having tea parties with zombie grandmas, and exploring candy forests with zombie puppies. Splash swam through everything, leaving trails of sparkles that made everything more beautiful.

When it was time for dinner, Lily gave each zombie a careful hug. "I'll come back tomorrow," she promised.

Back in her room, everything looked normal again. Splash was swimming happily in his bowl. The charging cable lay innocently on her desk. But now when Lily played Zombie Adventure, she knew the truth. The zombies weren't monsters at all. They were just friends waiting for someone to see them differently.

Lily learned that day that sometimes the scariest things are just the loneliest things, and a little kindness can turn any monster into a friend. And sometimes, magic comes in the smallest, fishiest packages.
