The Goldfish Who Swam the Sky

Lily loved the backyard pool. But tonight, something magical was happening. The water began to glow, shimmering like tiny stars had fallen inside.

Her friend Tomas had come over for a sleepover, and they both peered into the sparkling water. "Did you see that?" Tomas whispered. A small goldfish broke the surface, but instead of splashing back down, it kept rising.

"Swimming?" Lily gasped. "But that's impossible!"

The goldfish was swimming through the air itself, leaving a trail of golden sparkles wherever it went. Its scales flashed like living lightning, bright and beautiful against the dark sky.

"Follow it!" Tomas cried.

They chased the magical fish across the yard, past the garden where fireflies danced, all the way to the old oak tree. There, the goldfish circled three times and suddenly burst into a shower of light that formed a glowing doorway in the trunk.

Lily and Tomas stepped through and found themselves in a world where pools floated among clouds like liquid moons. Everywhere, golden fish swam through the air, creating dazzling patterns of light that rippled like lightning across the purple sky.

"Welcome," said the largest goldfish, whose scales shone brighter than all the others. "We are the Sky Swimmers, and we've been waiting for friends who still believe in magic."

The children spent what felt like hours swimming through the air with their new friends, learning that true magic lives in wonder and friendship. When the first hint of dawn touched the horizon, the goldfish led them back through the oak tree.

In their backyard, the pool looked ordinary again. But in its depths, Lily spotted a single golden scale that shimmered with starlight.

"Will we ever see them again?" Tomas asked.

Lily smiled, pressing the warm scale to her heart. "I think they're always nearby. Sometimes the most magical friends are the ones who teach us to see wonder everywhere."

And every summer night when lightning flashed across the sky, Lily and Tomas remembered the goldfish who taught them that some friends are found in the most unexpected places—and that magic is real for those who believe.
