The Goldfish Who Swam in the Sky
Mango had the most magnificent hair in the whole world. It wasn't just orange—it was the color of sunset, pumpkin patches, and autumn leaves all mixed together in wild, bouncy curls that reached her shoulders. Every morning, she'd count twenty spirals, but they always seemed to move around like they had a mind of their own.
One afternoon, while Mango was swimming in her backyard pool, something magical happened. A tiny goldfish with scales like liquid sunshine swam right up to the surface and looked at her with bright, curious eyes. But this wasn't an ordinary goldfish—it could swim through the AIR!
"Hello!" bubbled the goldfish, doing a somersault above the water. "I'm Finn. I've been looking for someone with hair as orange as my favorite coral reef."
Mango's eyes grew wide. "You can talk? And swim in the sky?"
Finn did a happy wiggle. "Only when I find someone with truly magical hair. Your curls are like orange seaweed dancing in the ocean current! That means we're going to be best friends."
From that day on, every swimming lesson became an adventure. Finn would swim alongside Mango, teaching her secret fish techniques—how to glide like a ray, how to float like a jellyfish, and how to hold her breath longer than any kid in her class. In return, Mango would let Finn hide in her orange curls during their walks to the pond, safe from hungry herons.
"Friends help each other," Finn told her one afternoon as they watched the sunset turn the sky orange. "That's the most important lesson."
Mango nodded, hugging her knees. "And having orange hair that looks like coral doesn't hurt either!"
Finn laughed, a sound like tiny bubbles popping. "Nope. It definitely helps!"
