The Goldfish Who Spied on Stars
Lily loved the old swimming pool at the bottom of her garden. Even when the water turned green and leaf-filled, she would sit on the edge and dip her toes in, dreaming of magic. One summer evening, as the first stars blinked awake, something extraordinary happened.
A tiny goldfish popped to the surface, but this wasn't an ordinary fish. His scales shimmered like rainbow sequins, and when he spoke, his voice sounded like silver bells. "Hello there! I'm Finnegan, and I'm on a very important mission."
Lily gasped. "You can talk?"
"Only when I find the right friend," Finnegan said mysteriously. "You see, I'm not really a goldfish. I'm a spy for the Moon Queen!" He swam in excited circles. "Every night, I collect children's happy dreams and take them to the moon to make moonshine glow. But tonight, something terrible happened — the great constellation Taurus has fallen from the sky!"
Lily's eyes widened. "The bull?"
"Yes! The great star bull!" Finnegan dashed through the water, leaving trails of glitter. "Without him, the night sky is missing its guardian. I saw him splash into this very pool an hour ago, but he's too heavy to swim back up on his own."
Lily peered into the dark water. Deep below, she saw something glowing — enormous, gentle eyes and horns made of stardust. The constellation bull was trapped!
"How can we help?" Lily asked.
Finnegan swam close. "Together, we can do anything. The bull carries the magic of courage, and I carry the magic of friendship. But we need someone with the magic of belief — that's you, Lily!"
Lily squeezed her eyes shut and believed with all her heart that the bull could fly again. When she opened her eyes, Finnegan was glowing brighter than a lantern. The bull began to rise, his star-horns shining, lifting gently from the water as if carried by invisible moonbeams.
"Thank you!" the bull's voice rumbled like distant thunder. "You've saved the night sky!"
With a magnificent splash, the great bull soared upward, trailing stardust across the sky until he found his place among the stars. He twinkled extra bright, as if winking at them.
Finnegan did a happy flip. "The Moon Queen will be so pleased! And Lily, now you're part of our secret team. Every time you see the constellation Taurus shining bright, remember — you helped put him there."
From that night on, Lily always waved at the bull constellation before bed. And sometimes, when the pool water shimmered just right, she'd see Finnegan's sequin scales flash in the moonlight, collecting happy dreams to keep the moon glowing.
The best spies, she learned, were the ones who spread magic instead of secrets.
