The Goldfish Who Rode Lightning
Seven-year-old Leo loved nothing more than swimming in Silver Creek Pond. But what he loved even more was his little orange goldfish, Finwick, who lived in a bowl on his nightstand.
One stormy afternoon, Leo was swimming in the pond when something magical happened. A bolt of lightning flashed across the dark sky, and suddenly Finwick appeared beside him in the water—but Finwick wasn't tiny anymore. He was as big as a dolphin!
"Leo!" Finwick bubbled. "The lightning woke me up! I've always wanted to show you something wonderful!"
Finwick told Leo to hold onto his shiny golden scales. Together they swam straight up into the air! The lightning wasn't scary anymore—it was like a magical staircase made of light.
"Where are we going?" Leo laughed as they zoomed past raindrops.
"To the Cloud Castle!" Finwick exclaimed. "Every time lightning strikes, the cloud painters create something beautiful!"
Above the storm, Leo saw an amazing sight. Friendly cloud creatures were using lightning bolts as paintbrushes, painting brilliant pictures across the sky—purple castles, rainbow bridges, and fields of glowing flowers that only appeared during storms.
"I usually watch from my bowl," Finwick said, "but I always wished my friend could see it too."
Leo realized Finwick had been lonely in his little bowl, watching the world through glass. Now they were having an adventure together!
The cloud painters gave Leo a special lightning-made paintbrush. "For being such a good friend to Finwick," they said. "Use it to paint your dreams!"
When Leo woke up on the grass near the pond, Finwick was back in his bowl, tiny again. But Leo's hair stood up with static, and in his pocket was a tiny paintbrush that shimmered like lightning.
That night, Leo painted a picture of his adventure while Finwick watched happily. Now Finwick wasn't lonely anymore—and neither was Leo. Because sometimes the best adventures are the ones you share with a friend, even if they're a goldfish who rides lightning.
