The Goldfish Who Rode Lightning

Emma loved the old swimming pool behind her grandmother's house. It had been empty for years, but she knew better. Every full moon, something magical happened.

Tonight, Emma tiptoed outside with her flashlight. The moonlight danced on the cracked tiles as tiny raindrops began to fall. Suddenly, the pool filled not with water, but with shimmering silver light.

A small goldfish appeared, floating in the middle of the glowing pool. But this wasn't any ordinary goldfish—its scales sparkled like diamonds, and its fins trailed with tiny rainbows.

"Hello, Emma," the goldfish said. "I've been waiting for you."

Emma gasped. "You can talk?"

"I can do much more than talk," said the goldfish with a wink. "I'm Pearl, guardian of the Wishing Pool. But something terrible happened. The Great Lightning Storm broke my magic cable—my connection to the stars. Without it, I can't grant wishes anymore."

Emma looked around and saw a frayed golden cable lying near the pool edge. It sparked whenever lightning flashed overhead.

"I can help!" Emma said bravely. "But how?"

"You must trust me completely," Pearl said. "Take my fin, and when lightning strikes the pool, hold on tight."

Thunder rumbled. Emma reached into the light and touched Pearl's fin. Suddenly—CRACK! Lightning struck the pool, filling it with blinding purple light. Emma and Pearl shot upward on a beam of pure magic, zooming past clouds and stars!

They found the broken end of the cosmic cable floating near the moon. Emma grabbed it while Pearl sang a ancient song of repair. The cable reknitted itself with golden threads of starlight, reconnecting with a burst of rainbow colors.

They floated back to earth just as the sun began to rise.

"You saved magic for all children," Pearl said. "Now they can make wishes again. But Emma, because of your brave heart, you get one wish right now."

Emma thought carefully. "I wish that every lonely child finds a friend like you."

Pearl's scales glowed brighter than ever. "Granted. And Emma? You'll never be lonely again. Whenever you visit the pool, I'll be here."

As the magic faded and the pool returned to normal, Emma discovered something small and golden in her pocket—a tiny goldfish scale that shimmered with a hint of lightning, promising magic whenever she needed a friend.
