The Goldfish Who Ran on Raindrops

Leo loved rainy days more than anything. While other kids stayed inside, he'd pull on his yellow boots and run through the neighborhood, splashing through every puddle he could find.

One Tuesday afternoon, Leo was running through his favorite park when something strange happened. As his boots hit a particularly large puddle, the water shimmered with golden light. Tiny ripples formed the shape of a fish, and suddenly a small goldfish made entirely of water and light swam through the air right in front of Leo's face.

"You run beautifully," said the goldfish in a voice like tinkling bells.

Leo stopped running. "You can talk?"

"I'm Finnigan, and I live in the raindrops from the Cloud Kingdom," the fish replied. "But I've always wondered what it feels like to run instead of fall."

Leo's eyes widened. "You want to stay on the ground?"

Finnigan swam closer. "Water always flows downhill, never forward. Unless..."

"Unless what?"

"Unless someone who knows how to run shows me the way."

Leo grinned. "I can teach you! Take my hand."

Finnigan floated down and rested gently on Leo's palm, feeling like cool dew.

"Now," Leo said, "when we run, think about moving forward, not down. Think about where you WANT to go."

Leo started running slowly at first, then faster. To his amazement, Finnigan didn't slide or drip off. The golden fish stayed perfectly balanced, leaving a trail of sparkling water droplets behind them.

"I'm doing it!" Finnigan cried. "I'm running!"

They ran together through every puddle in the park, leaving golden ripples wherever they stepped. Other children came out to watch in wonder as the boy and his magical fish created rainbows in the gray rain.

When the sun finally came out, Finnigan grew sad. "I have to return to the clouds now."

Leo felt a lump in his throat. "Will I ever see you again?"

"Every time it rains," Finnigan promised, "look for the puddle that shimmers golden. I'll be there, and we'll run together."

From that day on, Leo never minded rainy days. He knew that somewhere in the falling water, a friend was waiting to teach him that even impossible things become possible when you have someone who believes in you.
