The Goldfish Who Ran Away
Leo loved his small orange goldfish, Finn. Every day after school, Leo would sit by the fishbowl and tell Finn stories about dragons, treasure, and magical lands.
One rainy Saturday, Leo was exploring the attic when he found something strange—a thick black cable with sparkling blue wires inside. It pulsed with a faint glow.
"What are you?" Leo whispered.
He carried the cable downstairs to his room. Curious, he touched one end to Finn's fishbowl. suddenly, the water began to shimmer like liquid sunshine!
Finn swam to the surface and—POP!—jumped right out of the bowl!
But Finn didn't flop on the floor like a normal fish. Instead, two tiny legs appeared, and Finn started running around the room!
"Leo!" Finn squeaked. "I can run! I can explore!"
Leo laughed with delight. "Where should we go?"
"Everywhere!" said Finn, running toward the door. "I want to see the garden, the park, the world!"
Leo grabbed his coat and followed his running goldfish outside. They raced through the garden, where Finn chased butterflies. They visited the park, where Finn slid down the slide (which he called the 'waterfall of fun'). They even peeked at the neighbor's cat through the fence.
As the sun began to set, Finn stopped running. His little legs disappeared, and he looked tired.
"I need water, Leo," Finn said softly.
Leo gently picked up his friend and carried him home. He placed Finn back in the fishbowl, where the goldfish swam happily.
"That was the best day ever," Finn bubbled. "But you know what?"
"What?" Leo asked.
"Being a goldfish is pretty wonderful too. I have adventures through your stories, and I have the best friend in the world."
Leo smiled. "And I have the most magical goldfish in the world."
That night, Leo hid the special cable in his drawer. Some days, Finn would swim and dream. Other days, they'd use the cable and go running together. But the best days were the ones when Leo told stories and Finn listened—the most ordinary, extraordinary friendship of all.
