The Goldfish Who Loved Padel

Leo was the worst padel player in his class. Every Tuesday afternoon, he dragged his feet to the court, knowing he'd miss the ball again. His classmates laughed, and he always walked home alone.

Then came the day he found something shimmering near the water fountain behind the courts. A tiny goldfish flopped in a puddle, gasping for help. Leo scooped it up gently and rushed to release it in the park pond.

"Thank you," said a voice.

Leo froze. The goldfish was floating at the surface, looking at him with bright eyes.

"You can talk?"

"I'm Finnegan, and you're the first person who's ever been kind to me," the goldfish bubbled happily. "I'd love to be your friend! And I noticed something about your padel game..."

"Please don't say I'm terrible. I already know."

"Not terrible!" Finnegan's scales sparkled like tiny stars. "You're overthinking. In my underwater kingdom, we play padel too! We use shells as racquets and pearls as balls. The secret is believing you'll hit it before you even swing."

Leo's eyes widened. "You have a whole kingdom?"

"Next to the magical coral reef! It's beautiful—seaweed in rainbows, jellyfish that glow like lanterns..." Finnegan did a happy flip. "Visit me in your dreams tonight. I'll show you!"

That night, Leo dreamed of an underwater world more colorful than anything he'd ever imagined. He watched fish playing padel with graceful confidence, never doubting themselves.

On Tuesday, Finnegan's voice echoed in Leo's mind: *Believe before you swing.*

Leo stepped onto the court. When the ball came sailing toward him, he didn't panic. He believed.

*THWACK!* The ball sailed perfectly over the net.

His classmates stopped laughing. By the end of class, Leo was hitting winners from every corner of the padel court. He wasn't just good—he was magical.

"Leo!" called Maya, the girl who always sat quietly during games. "Want to practice together?"

He'd never had a friend before.

That afternoon, Leo visited the pond. "Thank you, Finnegan!"

The goldfish surfaced, grinning. "You did it yourself. You just needed to believe."

Leo smiled, realizing something wonderful: sometimes the best friends come in the smallest—and most surprising—packages.
