The Goldfish Who Loved Lightning
Oliver was the boy who talked to fish. Every evening, he'd visit his pet goldfish, Finny, in her crystal bowl.
"Tell me about swimming again," Oliver would beg, and Finny would dance in circles, her golden scales flashing like tiny coins.
One stormy night, Oliver noticed something strange. Finny wasn't swimming away from the window—she was swimming TOWARD it, toward the lightning that crackled across the sky.
"What are you doing?" Oliver gasped as he found her floating beside him on the windowsill.
Finny's eyes sparkled. "The lightning! It calls to me. The old cable car on the hill—it becomes magical when lightning strikes! Come see!"
They climbed the grassy hill where the rusty cable car sat. Usually, it was just a machine that glided slowly across the valley. But as lightning flashed, something amazing happened.
The cable car began to GLOW. It didn't just move forward—it began dancing!
"Hop in!" Finny cried.
Inside the cable car, they weren't just passengers anymore. The lightning had transformed them. Oliver looked down at his hands—they were moving slowly, almost like a silly zombie dance. Finny was doing it too!
"ZOLD! ZOLD!" Finny chanted, and Oliver realized she was trying to say "DANCE" but her zombie mouth couldn't form the words right.
They laughed and zombie-danced across the valley in their magical cable car, lightning painting everything purple and blue. Other fish joined them, leaping from the creek, zombie-dancing through the rain.
When morning came, the magic faded. Finny swam back to her bowl, and Oliver tucked her in.
"Next time," Finny whispered, "we'll bring more friends. Lightning loves company!"
And Oliver smiled, knowing some secrets are better shared—in the most surprising ways possible.
