The Goldfish Who Knew Everything
Lily's pet goldfish was not like other fish. His name was Finny, and he had bright orange scales that sparkled like tiny stars. But what made Finny special wasn't how he looked—it was that he knew secrets.
Every night at midnight, Finny would swim to the top of his bowl and blow a perfect bubble. If Lily popped it, she would hear whispers of magical things happening in her neighborhood.
One Tuesday, Lily became a secret spy. She followed Finny's instructions and crept downstairs in her fuzzy slippers. Through the window, she saw something amazing.
A gentle bull was walking down the middle of the street. But this wasn't an ordinary bull—his fur was made of soft clouds, and his horns were made of moonlight. He moved slowly, leaving a trail of glitter wherever he stepped.
Then Lily saw them: little zombie garden gnomes! They weren't scary at all. They wobbled and wiggled their plastic legs, dancing around the cloud bull's hooves. They looked like they were having the best party ever.
Finny had told Lily the truth. Every night, the magical creatures came out to play while humans slept.
The cloud bull spotted Lily at the window. Instead of running away, he bowed his giant head. His eyes twinkled like constellations.
"Come dance," his eyes seemed to say.
Lily shook her head. She had a secret to keep.
The zombie gnomes waved their tiny ceramic hands. The cloud bull smiled. Lily waved back, promising to keep their secret safe.
When morning came, the bull was gone, and the gnomes were frozen back in Mrs. Higgins' garden. But Lily knew the truth. The world was full of magic, if you only knew where to look.
Finny swam in happy circles. He had found the perfect friend—a girl who could keep a secret and see the magic in everything.
That night, Lily left an extra fish flake for Finny. Being a spy was hungry work, and she had a feeling their adventures were just beginning.
