The Goldfish Who Hit Home Runs

Emma loved baseball more than anything. Every afternoon after school, she'd practice in the backyard, swinging her favorite yellow bat until the sun went down. But today, the sky turned dark and angry.

"Storm's coming!" her mom called from the porch. "Better pack up!"

Emma sighed. She gathered her gear, but something caught her eye. In the backyard pool, a tiny goldfish was swimming in frantic circles, even though it wasn't a fish pond. How had a goldfish gotten there?

CRACK! A bolt of lightning struck the old oak tree right beside the pool. Emma gasped. But instead of being scared, she noticed something amazing. The lightning had made the pool water shimmer like liquid diamonds, and the little goldfish was now... glowing.

The fish swam to the surface and looked right at Emma. To her astonishment, it spoke in a tiny, bubbly voice, "I've been waiting for someone to play baseball with!"

Emma's jaw dropped. "You can talk? And you like baseball?"

"I'm Pearl," said the goldfish proudly. "Lightning magic gave me the power to leave the water for one hour. Want to play?"

Emma couldn't believe her luck. She tossed a ball gently, and Pearl's golden scales flashed as she leaped from the water like a rainbow. The fish used her tail as a bat and—PING!—the ball sailed over the fence.

"A home run!" cheered Emma.

For the next hour, they played the most wonderful game of baseball ever. Pearl taught Emma that even the smallest friends can have the biggest talents. Emma showed Pearl how to believe in herself.

When the glow began to fade, Pearl splashed back into the pool. "Thank you, Emma. The lightning magic only comes once in a lifetime. You made my dream come true."

"You made mine too," Emma smiled, waving goodbye as Pearl disappeared beneath the water.

That night, Emma fell asleep with a smile. She had learned something magical: sometimes, the most amazing friends come in the smallest, most unexpected packages. And sometimes, if you're lucky, a storm brings you exactly what you never knew you needed.
