The Goldfish Who Flew

Finn was a bright orange goldfish who lived in a round glass bowl on a sunny windowsill. He had tiny fins that fluttered like butterfly wings and scales that shimmered like little coins in the sunlight. Every day, Finn watched the world beyond his glass home and dreamed of adventures.

Through the window, he saw birds soaring through the sky and wished he could fly too. But Finn was a fish, and fish belong in water. Or so he thought.

One evening, a storm rolled in. Dark clouds gathered like gray cotton balls, and the wind whistled through the trees. Finn watched in wonder as raindrops tapped against his glass bowl. Then—CRACK! A bolt of lightning flashed across the sky, turning the dark room bright as day.

Something magical happened in that moment. The lightning's magic sparkled through the air, and suddenly Finn discovered something amazing: the air felt like water! He could swim through it!

With a flap of his fins, Finn soared out of his bowl and into the room. He swam through the air as if it were a vast ocean, diving around books and gliding over the rug. He felt lighter than a bubble, freer than he'd ever been.

Finn saw his room from a whole new perspective—floating near the ceiling where the warm air rose, diving down to visit his toy castle on the floor. He even swam to the window and looked out at the stormy world beyond.

But as the lightning faded, Finn felt himself getting heavy. The air was becoming air again. He swam back to his bowl just in time, splashing into his cool, familiar water with a tiny plop.

Finn rested on his favorite stone, his heart fluttering with happiness. He had flown! He had explored! And now he was home.

The next morning, when seven-year-old Lily came to feed him, Finn did his happiest dance, swirling and spinning. She laughed and sprinkled his food flakes.

"Someone's excited today!" she said.

Finn knew something she didn't: adventures can happen anywhere, even in a fish bowl. And sometimes, if you wish hard enough, even a goldfish can touch the sky.
