The Goldfish Who Dreamed of Trees
In a sparkling blue pool lived a tiny goldfish named Finbar. Finbar wasn't like other fish. While they swam in circles chasing flakes, Finbar spent his days gazing up at the world above the water's surface.
Every afternoon, a fluffy orange cat named Mango would pad softly to the pool's edge and peer into the water. At first, Finbar hid behind a lily pad, scared of those bright green eyes. But Mango never tried to catch him. Instead, the cat simply sat and watched, as if admiring the dancing sunlight on the water.
One hot summer day, Finbar decided to be brave. He swam right up to the surface and popped his head out.
"Hello there, little friend," Mango purred softly. "I've been wanting to talk to you."
Finbar's scales shimmered with excitement. Nobody had ever talked to him before!
"I'm Finbar! What's it like up there? In the world beyond the water?"
Mango's tail twitched thoughtfully. "It's wonderful. There are soft green patches to nap on, butterflies that taste like adventure, and the most magnificent palm tree that drops the sweetest oranges."
Finbar's eyes widened. "Oranges? Tell me more!"
But just then, something round and orange splashed into the pool with a glorious PLUNK! An orange had fallen from the palm tree above!
Finbar swam circles around it, enchanted by its bright color and citrusy scent that even reached him underwater. He realized then that the world above was connected to his world below in magical ways.
From that day on, Finbar and Mango became the unlikeliest of friends. Mango would describe the swaying palm trees, the warm sun on fur, and the taste of sweet oranges. Finbar would tell of underwater kingdoms, the dance of light beams through water, and secret cave formations beneath the pool's edge.
They learned something wonderful: the world is full of magic when you see it through someone else's eyes. And the best adventures are the ones you share with friends who are different from you.
Sometimes, when nobody was watching, Mango would gently paw fallen oranges into the pool, just so Finbar could experience their magic too. And Finbar would create beautiful bubble shows just for Mango.
Because that's what friends do—they make each other's worlds bigger, more magical, and full of wonder.
