The Goldfish Who Dreamed of Stars
Goldie was not an ordinary goldfish. Most goldfish are happy swimming in circles, chasing flakes, and watching the world through glass walls. But Goldie spent her nights staring at the moon through her bowl, wondering what lay beyond.
"I wish I could explore," she bubbled to Barnaby, the family's golden dog who always napped near her bowl.
Barnaby opened one sleepy eye. "You're perfect just as you are, little friend."
But Goldie's wish grew stronger each day. Then came the morning something wonderful happened. A piece of orange tangerine rolled across the table and tumbled into her bowl.
Instead of making a mess, the orange slice began to glow. Soft light surrounded Goldie, and suddenly she wasn't just swimming anymore—she was floating! Barnaby's tail thumped excitedly as Goldie drifted right out of her bowl.
"Where are we going?" Barnaby asked, following her through the house and out into the garden.
"To see the world!" Goldie sang, her magical orange bubble carrying her higher and higher. They soared past birds, clouds that looked like cotton candy, and rainbows that smelled like berries.
Goldie saw rivers winding like silver ribbons, forests dancing in the wind, and mountains wearing crowns of snow. But the most beautiful sight was when she looked down and saw her small bowl, and Barnaby wagging his tail far below.
"The world is big and beautiful," Goldie realized, "but my real adventure is having a friend like you."
She gently floated back down, the orange magic fading but leaving something behind—a tiny scale on Barnaby's nose that glittered gold whenever he smiled.
Goldie still dreamed of stars. But she learned that the best adventures are the ones you share with friends, even if you never leave your own backyard.
