The Goldfish Who Dreamed of Running
Lily was running through the park, her golden ponytail bouncing behind her. She loved running, especially on sunny days like this when the grass felt like soft green carpet under her sneakers.
Suddenly, something sparkled in the grass. A tiny goldfish was flopping near a puddle, its orange scales glinting in the sunlight. It must have fallen from someone's fishbowl or been carried by a bird.
"Oh no!" Lily cried, scooping the fish into her palm. Its cool, slippery body felt magical somehow, like holding a piece of living rainbow.
The goldfish looked up at her with what seemed like a tiny smile. *Thank you,* it seemed to say without speaking. *I've always wanted to see the world up here. I'm Goldie, and I have a secret.*
Lily's eyes widened. "You can talk?"
*Only to special children,* Goldie bubbled. *I'm a magic fish. I grant one wish to anyone who helps me.*
Lily's mind raced. She could wish for anything! A castle? A dragon? Unlimited candy? But then she remembered the fish's sad flopping in the grass.
"I wish..." Lily paused. "I wish you could run and explore the world like you've always wanted!"
*That's the kindest wish anyone has ever made,* Goldie said, her fins glowing. Suddenly, the little fish grew two tiny legs and jumped from Lily's palm. Goldie went running across the grass, leaping and dancing like she'd dreamed of doing all her life.
Lily laughed and chased after her new friend. They ran together through flowerbeds, past amazed squirrels, and around the old oak tree. Goldie showed Lily the hidden wonders of the park - secret tunnels beneath roots, patches of four-leaf clovers, and a nest of baby birds.
Lily's iphone buzzed in her pocket with games and messages, but she ignored it. This adventure was too magical to interrupt.
As sunset painted the sky pink and purple, Goldie stopped running. *I need to return to my pond now,* she said sadly. *But I'll never forget today.*
"Me neither," Lily said, hugging her fishy friend. "Sometimes the best wishes are the ones we make for others."
*That,* Goldie said, *is the greatest lesson of all.*
And every day after school, Lily ran to the park to visit her friend, learning that true magic isn't about getting what you want—it's about helping others' dreams come true.
