The Goldfish Who Dreamed of Running

Leo's goldfish Finny was not like other fish. While most goldfish were happy swimming in circles, Finny spent his days pressed against the glass, watching Leo run through the garden, chasing butterflies and climbing trees.

"I wish I could run," Finny bubbled sadly.

One Tuesday morning, Leo was eating breakfast at the table above Finny's bowl. He held up a bright orange tablet. "This is my vitamin," Leo told Finny. "It makes me strong and fast. Want some?"

Before Leo could stop him, a mischievous wind knocked the tablet from Leo's hand. Splash! It dissolved instantly into Finby's water.

Finny's scales began to shimmer like tiny stars. Suddenly, he felt lighter than air. He swam faster than ever before, creating a whirlpool in his bowl. Then something amazing happened — Finny jumped right out of his bowl and landed in a puddle on the floor!

But instead of flopping helplessly, Finny found himself gliding along the water surface as if he were running on invisible legs.

"Finny!" Leo gasped.

Together they discovered that the magical vitamin had given Finny the ability to travel through any water — and move like he was running through it! They spent the day adventuring: Finny raced through garden hoses, surfed down rain-filled gutters, and even zoomed through the water pipes of Leo's house.

"This is the best day ever!" Leo laughed.

But as evening came, Finny grew tired. His magical sparkle was fading.

"I want to go home," Finny said softly.

Leo carefully carried his friend back to his bowl. Finny sank happily into the familiar water, his running adventure over.

"Being brave and exploring is wonderful," Leo whispered, tapping the glass gently. "but coming home to the water you love — that's the best feeling of all."

Finny swam a slow, content circle. He had learned something magical: true adventures are wonderful, but the best part is having a friend who always brings you safely home.
