The Goldfish Who Dreamed of Running
Luna was a small gray cat with big green eyes, and she loved sitting by the garden pond. Every day, she watched the orange goldfish swimming gracefully through the water. His name was Finn, and he was the most beautiful fish Luna had ever seen, with scales that sparkled like tiny stars.
One sunny afternoon, Luna noticed something strange. Finn wasn't swimming like usual. He was pressing his nose against the glass of his small bowl, looking up at the world above with sad eyes.
"What's wrong, little friend?" Luna asked gently.
"I wish I could run," Finn bubbled softly. "I want to feel grass under my fins and chase butterflies like you do."
Luna's heart went out to him. She looked up at the tall palm tree that shaded the garden. Its leaves swayed like friendly hands, and Luna had heard stories from the old tomcat next door that palm trees sometimes granted wishes to pure hearts.
Luna carefully lifted Finn's bowl and placed it under the palm tree's lowest branch. She closed her eyes and made a wish with all her heart – not for herself, but for her friend.
A single palm frond curled down and touched Finn's water with a magical shimmer. Suddenly, Finn began to glow with golden light. He grew two tiny legs and slipped out of his bowl!
Finn took his first running steps across the grass, his scales glistening in the sunlight. He ran and ran, chasing butterflies and rolling in soft clover. Luna ran beside him, purring with joy.
But as sunset approached, Finn looked tired. His magic was fading.
"Thank you, Luna," he said. "Running was even better than I dreamed. But I belong in the water."
Luna helped him back to his pond, where he swam happily once more. They remained best friends, and sometimes, on especially magical days, Luna would scratch the palm trunk with thanks, and Finn would wiggle his fins like he was still running through grass.
And Luna learned that the best wishes are the ones you make for others.
