The Goldfish Who Dreamed of Running
In a cozy blue bowl lived a tiny goldfish named Finn. Every day, he watched the world through the glass — children laughing, dogs chasing balls, and most of all, people RUNNING freely through the park.
"I wish I could run," Finn sighed, blowing bubbles. "Swimming is wonderful, but running looks like flying!"
One sunny afternoon, something terrible happened. Finn's bowl tipped over during a game of tag. Water splashed everywhere, and Finn found himself flopping on the hot sidewalk. He needed water, and fast!
Suddenly, a girl named Penny skidded to a stop beside him. She had been RUNNING through the park when she spotted the little goldfish.Quickly, Penny scooped Finn into her hands. But where could she find water? Then she saw it — a round orange that had fallen from someone's lunch bag. An idea sparked in her eyes.
Penny gently placed Finn inside the hollowed-out orange. It was cozy and just wet enough with juice. She carried him all the way to the park's pond, talking to him the whole time.
"Don't worry, little friend. We're almost there!"
When she released Finn into the cool pond water, he did something amazing. Instead of swimming away, he leaped straight up — and kept going! Finn was running across the water's surface, his golden scales sparkling like tiny suns.
"How?" Penny gasped.
"The orange juice gave me magic!" Finn called back. "For one whole day, I can run AND swim!"
Together they played — Penny running on land, Finn running on water. They raced and laughed until the sun began to set.
As the magic faded, Finn swam close to Penny. "Thank you for saving me. But you know what? Running was fun, but swimming home to my friends feels even better."
Penny smiled. "Sometimes what we want isn't as wonderful as what we already have."
Every day after that, Penny visited Finn. She stopped running so fast and learned to love swimming instead. And Finn? He was happy just being a goldfish, though sometimes he still dreamed of running across moonlit water.
For in helping each other, they both discovered something new — the best adventures are the ones we share, whether on two feet or two fins.
