The Goldfish Who Dreamed of Egypt
Lily's pet goldfish, Finley, was no ordinary fish. While most goldfish spent their days swimming in circles, Finley spent his time staring at the ancient sphinx poster on Lily's bedroom wall.
"I bet you'd love to see the real Sphinx," Lily whispered, tapping on the glass bowl. Finley did a joyful flip.
That night, something magical happened. Finley began to glow with golden light, and suddenly—whoosh!—he flew out of his bowl, growing larger until he became a magnificent flying fish, shimmering like a sunset.
"Come with me, Lily!" Finley said in a bubbly voice. "The Great Sphinx needs our help!"
Lily climbed onto Finley's back, and together they soared through starry skies all the way to Egypt. There stood the enormous Great Sphinx, but something was wrong. Its stone face looked sad.
"What's wrong?" Lily asked.
"I've forgotten my riddle," the Sphinx rumbled. "Without it, I cannot guard the treasure of wisdom."
Suddenly, a enormous bull charged toward them! But instead of fighting, the bull skidded to a halt, sniffing Lily's pocket.
"Are you... hungry?" Lily asked. She pulled out the spinach wrap her mom had packed for her midnight snack. The bull's eyes lit up. He gobbled it happily, then nuzzled Lily's hand.
"Thank you," the bull said softly. "I am the Sphinx's guardian. I haven't had anyone share their food with kindness in centuries."
The bull reached into his golden horn and pulled out a glowing green leaf—ancient magical spinach! "Eat this," he told Lily. "It will help you remember anything."
Lily took a bite. Suddenly, she knew the Sphinx's lost riddle! She recited it beautifully:
*"I have lakes but no water, mountains but no stone, cities but no buildings. What am I?"
*
"A MAP!" the Sphinx cried joyfully. His stone face smiled. "You've saved me!"
As thanks, the Sphinx gave Lily a small golden pyramid. "Whenever you need wisdom, hold this and remember: kindness unlocks more doors than force ever could."
Finley flew Lily home, tucking her safely into bed. In the morning, her goldfish bowl looked ordinary again, but Lily winked at Finley. They both knew the truth—sometimes the smallest friends have the biggest adventures, and a little spinach goes a long way!
