The Goldfish Who Dreamed of Dancing

Lily was seven years old, and she had a secret. In the garden behind her house, beneath the weeping willow tree, there was a tiny pond with crystal-clear water. And in that pond lived a goldfish named Splash.

Every day after school, Lily would visit Splash. She would sit by the water's edge and tell him stories about her day—about the math test she almost aced, about the boy who shared his cookie at recess, about how much she wanted to learn to dance.

"I wish I could dance," Splash would say, his scales shimmering like tiny orange stars in the sunlight. "But I can only swim in circles."

One Tuesday, Lily brought something special. She had planted spinach seeds in her garden, and now the leaves were ready. She tore off a piece of fresh green spinach and dropped it into the water.

"This is magic spinach," she whispered. "My grandmother says it gives you the courage to dream big."

Splash nibbled the spinach leaf. Suddenly, something magical happened. The water around him began to sparkle, and Splash felt lighter than ever before. With a flick of his tail, he leaped right out of the pond!

But Splash didn't fall on the ground. Instead, droplets of water lifted around him, forming a beautiful bubble that carried him through the air.

"Look at me!" Splash cried. "I'm dancing!"

Lily laughed with delight as Splash twirled and spun through the garden, his orange scales flashing in the afternoon sun. He danced between the flowers, swirled around the oak tree, and even did a little leap over the garden fence.

For weeks, Lily brought spinach every day. And every day, Splash would dance with her in the garden. They became the best of friends, sharing secrets and dreams under the stars.

But then came the day Lily had to share her secret. A new girl moved in next door—a lonely girl named Mia who never smiled. Lily knew what she had to do.

"Splash," she said, "Mia needs magic more than we do. She doesn't have any friends."

Without hesitating, Splash agreed. That afternoon, Lily brought Mia to the garden. When Splash danced for her, Mia smiled for the first time. And when Lily gave her a piece of magic spinach to feed him, Mia laughed—a sound like tiny bells.

Lily learned something that day: the best magic isn't the kind that helps you dance above the water. The best magic is sharing your happiness with others.

And every evening, if you look closely at the pond beneath the weeping willow, you can still see Splash doing a little happy swim-dance, grateful for a friend with the biggest heart in the world.
