The Goldfish Who Dreamed of Baseball
Lily's room glowed with magic. Inside her tiny fish bowl, Finley the goldfish wasn't just any fish. He was a goldfish with big dreams.
Every afternoon, Lily would sit by his bowl and tell him stories. Her favorite story was about baseball. She played on a team called the Sunshine Sparks, and Finley would watch through the glass as she practiced her swings in the backyard.
"I wish you could play with me," Lily said, pressing her palm against the bowl. Finley swam to meet her hand, his scales shimmering like tiny stars.
One rainy Saturday, something extraordinary happened. Lily's mom dropped a shiny orange vitamin tablet into Finley's bowl – a special treat for fish. But this wasn't just any vitamin. It was MAGIC!
Suddenly, Finley grew! And grew! Until he was the size of a small dolphin, but even more amazing – he could float in the air!
"Lily!" Finley cheered in a bubbly voice. "Take me to the baseball field!"
Lily's eyes went wide. "You can talk?!" She grabbed her baseball glove and off they went, Finley floating happily beside her like a shiny orange balloon.
At the empty baseball diamond, Finley tried everything. He hit the ball with his tail! He caught fly balls in his mouth! But his favorite was swimming through the air – round and round the bases, making loop-de-loops that made Lily laugh so hard her tummy hurt.
"You're the best baseball player ever!" Lily cheered, giving her goldfish friend a high-five with her palm.
They played until sunset, when Finley began to shrink back to his normal size. But he didn't mind. He had lived his dream.
"Tomorrow," Lily promised, tucking a blanket around his bowl, "we'll practice your sliding into home plate."
Finley swam a happy circle, already dreaming of baseball under the stars. Some days, he thought, being a small fish with big friends was the biggest adventure of all.
And every baseball game after that, Lily always kept her glove open just a little bit wider – just in case her magical friend wanted to play catcher.
