The Goldfish Who Dreamed of Baseball

Fin was no ordinary goldfish. While most goldfish were happy swimming in circles, Fin spent his days watching Molly through the window, dreaming of baseball.

Molly was the best player on her team, but today she flopped onto her bed, crying. "I struck out again! I'll never be good."

Fin swam to the edge of his bowl, his orange scales glowing with sympathy. He wished he could help.

Dinner time came, and Molly's mom served spinach. "I hate spinach!" Molly complained, pushing the green leaves around her plate. "It's mushy and terrible."

But then she had an idea. She took one small leaf and dropped it into Fin's bowl.

Fin nibbled the spinach, and suddenly—CRACKLE! ZING! SPARKLE! His bowl filled with golden light. When the light faded, Fin had grown tiny arms and legs, still covered in shimmering orange scales.

"Molly!" Fin said, his voice like gentle bubbles. "The spinach gave me magic! Let's go play baseball!"

Molly's eyes widened. "You can talk? And you know baseball?"

"I've watched every game from your window!" Fin grinned. "And swimming practice is perfect pitching practice!"

They ran to the field, Fin's new legs running as gracefully as he swam. When Fin pitched, the ball curved like magic. When Molly hit, she knocked it clear over the fence—her first home run ever!

"You did it!" Fin cheered, doing a happy flip.

"WE did it!" Molly corrected, hugging her fishy friend.

As the sun set, Fin's magic faded. "I have to go back to my bowl now," he said sadly. "But thank you for the spinach—the magic is in trying new things."

Molly smiled. "I'll never say no to spinach again. Who knows what other magic it hides?"

Now every baseball game day, Molly gives Fin a special spinach leaf. And sometimes—just sometimes—he joins her for one magical inning of perfect baseball.

The smallest things can hold the biggest magic—if you're brave enough to try them.
