The Goldfish Who Dreamed of Baseball
In the corner of Mr. Higgins' backyard, a small blue pool shimmered in the sunlight. Inside lived Finnegan, a tiny orange goldfish with big dreams. While other goldfish were content swimming circles, Finnegan watched through the water's surface as neighborhood children played baseball in the field beyond the fence.
"How wonderful it must be," Finnegan sighed, blowing a perfect bubble that popped at the surface, "to hold a ball in your fins and hear everyone cheer."
One hot afternoon, little Lily's baseball sailed over the fence and splashed right into Finnegan's pool. The ball bobbed on the surface, and Finnegan swam up to investigate.
"Hello there," said Finnegan. "I've always wanted to meet a real baseball!"
To his surprise, the baseball replied! "And I've always wanted to meet a goldfish who could talk!" The ball's name was Bouncy, and it had rolled away from many games, hoping for adventure.
Finnegan had an idea. "What if we could play together? You could show me how to play baseball!"
"But you're underwater," Bouncy said.
Finnegan's scales glowed with determination. "Magic happens when you believe!"
That night, under a silver moon, something extraordinary happened. The pool began to sparkle and glow. The water became weightless, like swimming through air. Bouncy floated down, and Finnegan leaped up to catch it in his mouth—strike one!
For hours, goldfish and baseball played the most magical game ever seen. When morning came, Bouncy floated to the surface just as Lily peeked over the fence.
"My baseball!" she cried, reaching in. But instead of just a ball, she saw something wonderful—a tiny goldfish wearing a mini baseball cap made from a fallen leaf.
From that day on, whenever Lily played baseball, she always waved to Finnegan, and sometimes, just sometimes, she'd see the ball move on its own, as if someone invisible was helping it along.
And Finnegan learned that dreams really do come true, especially when you have a good friend to share them with.
