The Goldfish Who Dreamed of Baseball
Lily was playing baseball in her backyard when something extraordinary happened. As she reached into her pocket to grab the ball, she felt a tiny splash. There, swimming in the palm of her hand, was a little goldfish with shimmering orange scales.
"Hello!" said the goldfish. "My name is Finley, and I've been watching you play. It looks like so much fun!"
Lily's eyes went wide. "You can talk? And what's a goldfish doing in my palm?"
"I'm magical," Finley explained, his tail fluttering excitedly. "I've always dreamed of playing baseball, but I don't have any arms for throwing or legs for running. Do you think you could teach me?"
Lily smiled. "I don't know if fish can play baseball, but we can certainly try!"
But first, Finley needed practice. He wasn't very good at swimming fast. So Lily's grandmother gave them a special treat—little orange drops she called "vitamin stars." "These will give Finley energy and strength," she said with a wink.
Every day, Lily would take Finley to the pool where he practiced swimming laps, zooming through the water like a tiny orange rocket. After each swim, he'd eat his vitamin star and feel stronger.
One sunny afternoon, Lily had an idea. She set up a miniature baseball diamond beside the pool. "Here's your bat, Finley!" she said, holding out a tiny twig.
Finley swam to the surface, took a deep breath, and—SPLASH!—used his tail to hit a small pebble Lily pitched. It flew through the air and landed right in the bucket they were using as home base!
"I did it!" Finley cheered, doing a happy flip in the water. "I'm the first goldfish baseball player ever!"
Lily laughed and clapped. "You sure are! And you know what, Finley? Even though you're different, you found your own way to play. That's what makes you special."
From that day on, whenever Lily played baseball, Finley was there—swimming in his special pool-side bowl, cheering her on with tiny bubbles, and reminding everyone that with a little creativity and determination, anything is possible.
