The Goldfish Who Dreamed Big

Clementine was no ordinary goldfish. She was the most brilliant shade of orange, like a tiny piece of sunshine caught in a glass bowl. Every day, she watched from her spot on the windowsill as children splashed and laughed in the swimming pool below.

"Oh, how I wish I could go swimming there!" Clementine sighed, pressing her nose against the glass. "Just one little swim in that big, blue pool."

Her best friend was a wise old snail named Sheldon who lived at the bottom of her bowl. "The grass is always greener, Clementine," he said slowly. "But sometimes, what we have is exactly what we need."

But Clementine didn't listen. That night, under the glow of the full moon, she made a wish upon a falling star. "Please," she whispered with all her heart. "Let me swim in the pool just once."

Something magical happened. The water in her bowl began to shimmer and sparkle, swirling like a tiny rainbow. Then—WHOOSH!—Clementine found herself floating in the air, surrounded by stardust, carried gently toward the swimming pool below.

The pool was enormous! Bigger than anything she had ever imagined. Clementine swam and twirled, diving deep and leaping high. It was wonderful and exciting and… and…

And lonely.

There was no Sheldon to talk to. No familiar castle to hide in. No pretty pebbles to arrange just so. The water was cold and empty, without any of the comforting things she loved.

"I want to go home," she realized. The moment she thought it, the stardust returned, carrying her back to her little bowl on the windowsill.

Sheldon was waiting. "How was your adventure?"

"It was amazing," Clementine said, curling up happily in her favorite corner. "And I learned something important. The best adventures are even better when you have someone to share them with."

From that day on, Clementine still dreamed of big pools and faraway places. But she never forgot that her small, orange world was filled with the biggest treasure of all—friendship.
