The Goldfish Who Could Wish
Bubbles was not an ordinary goldfish. While other fish swam in lazy circles, Bubbles pressed her nose against her glass bowl, watching the world beyond.
Every morning, a round orange sat on the desk above her bowl. It was the brightest thing Bubbles had ever seen—more brilliant than the shiny pebbles at the bottom of her home, more glowing than the little plastic castle she swam through.
One afternoon, the orange rolled closer to the bowl's edge. "Hello down there," it said in a warm, sunny voice.
Bubbles flipped with excitement. "You can talk!"
"I'm a magical orange," the orange explained. "I grant one wish each year to someone who needs it most. And I've watched you dreaming, little goldfish."
Bubbles didn't hesitate. "I wish to see the world!"
The orange glowed brighter than sunshine. Golden sparkles swirled around Bubbles's bowl. Suddenly, she wasn't swimming in water anymore—she was floating in air!
She soared out the window, past treetops, over meadows, until she spotted something enormous and fuzzy sleeping by a river. It was a bear.
The bear opened one eye. "I've never seen a flying fish before."
"I'm a goldfish on an adventure!" Bubbles said proudly. "What's your name?"
"Barnaby," the bear sighed. "I'm supposed to be catching salmon for the winter, but I'm too slow. All the other bears laugh at me."
Bubbles thought carefully. "Maybe you're not slow. Maybe you're just thoughtful. Have you tried waiting patiently instead of chasing?"
Barnaby blinked. "No... I've always tried to run fast."
So Bubbles taught him to sit perfectly still, like a statue. When a salmon swam by, Barnaby waited until it was close, then—SNAP! He caught it easily.
"You did it!" Bubbles cheered.
Barnaby grinned. "You're the best friend ever, little fish."
As evening fell, the magic began to fade. Bubbles knew it was time to return home. But she wasn't sad—she had helped someone, and that was the greatest adventure of all.
When she woke up in her bowl the next morning, the magical orange was still there, glowing softly. It winked at her.
Bubbles swam a happy circle. She might be small, but even the smallest friends can make the biggest difference.
