The Goldfish Who Could Spy

Sam's palm was tickling. He looked down at his hand and giggled. His tiny pet goldfish, Fin, was balanced right there, flopping her orange tail.

"I'm a spy!" Fin whispered in her bubbly voice. "I spy something shiny!" Fin was no ordinary goldfish. She had a special magic bubble around her that let her breathe air and talk.

Sam lifted his hand to his eye. "Where?"

"Behind the old palm tree!" Fin did a flip on his palm. "Let's go!"

Sam crept across the garden. Behind the swaying palm leaves, something glittered. He pushed aside the fronds and gasped.

A tiny pyramid sat there, no bigger than a shoebox. But it sparkled like captured sunshine, with rainbow colors swirling across its surface.

"It's beautiful," Sam breathed.

Fin swam through the air in excited circles. "Touch it!"

Sam's finger grazed the pyramid's side. The tiny structure glowed brighter—and suddenly, they weren't in the garden anymore.

They stood inside a glorious underwater kingdom. Coral castles rose from crystal sands. Schools of fish with scales like jewels danced through rainbow-colored currents. But the castle looked sad and gray.

A sad turtle king approached them. "Our pyramid magic is fading. Only a true friend can restore it."

Sam looked at Fin. Fin looked at Sam. They had been friends since Sam had won her at the fair last summer. They had shared secrets, adventures, and Sam had even read her stories every night.

"We're friends," Sam said simply.

The pyramid burst into light! Color flooded back into the coral kingdom. The turtle king smiled.

"Thank you, friend. Your friendship is the strongest magic of all."

In a flash, Sam was back in his garden. Fin swam happily around his head. On his palm, something sparkled—a tiny pyramid-shaped scale, glowing with friendship magic.

"Best spy mission ever!" Fin bubbled.

Sam grinned. "And we're just getting started."
