The Goldfish Who Could Run
Lily loved her tiny orange goldfish named Sparkle. He swam in his bowl on her nightstand, his scales shining like tiny stars. Every night before bed, Lily would tap on the glass and whisper, "Goodnight, Sparkle."
One magical evening, when the moon glowed bright as a lemon drop, something amazing happened. Sparkle swam to the surface of his bowl and *BLOOP* — hopped right onto the nightstand!
"You can walk?" Lily gasped.
Sparkle wiggled his fins. "I can do more than that!" he said in a voice like tinkling bells. "I can go running!"
Running? A goldfish?
Before Lily could blink, Sparkle grew legs — tiny, sparkly ones. He grabbed her hand. "Come with me! I found something wonderful!"
They went running down the hallway, past her sleeping parents' room, and out the back door. The backyard had transformed. Where her swing set usually stood, a gleaming golden pyramid now rose toward the stars. It shimmered with colors: purple, blue, and, brightest of all, orange.
"I found it while you were at school," Sparkle said proudly. "It's the Pyramid of Dreams!"
Inside, mirrors reflected thousands of dancing lights. Sparkle explained, "This is where all children's forgotten dreams come to rest. But the pyramid is getting full. We need to help some dreams come true again!"
Lily thought of her dream to learn to ride a bike, which she'd given up on after falling. Sparkle touched his nose to an orange glow in the mirror. Suddenly, Lily remembered the feeling of wind in her hair, the joy of balancing, the thrill of speed.
"The pyramid didn't make me ride," Lily realized. "It reminded me I CAN ride. I just have to keep trying."
Sparkle nodded, his orange scales twinkling. "That's the magic. The dreams were never lost. Just forgotten."
They went running home as the sun began to rise. Sparkle hopped back into his bowl, legs disappearing. Lily's mom peeked in. "Time for school, sweetie."
Lily kissed Sparkle's bowl. "Good morning, my magical friend."
That afternoon, Lily got back on her bike. She wobbled. She fell. But she got back up. Because sometimes, the most magical adventures aren't in pyramids or in running goldfish — they're in believing in yourself, even when things seem impossible.
And somewhere in his bowl, Sparkle the goldfish winked his fishy eye and smiled.
