The Goldfish Who Could Fly
Emma loved her tiny goldfish, Orangey, who lived in a glass bowl on her nightstand. Every evening, she would tap gently on the glass and whisper, "Goodnight, my magical friend."
One stormy night, while lightning flashed across the sky like cracks in a dark window, something strange happened. A bolt of lightning struck so close that Emma's iPhone, which had been charging on her nightstand, glowed with a brilliant purple light.
Orangey began to shimmer and sparkle. Suddenly, the little goldfish leaped right out of his bowl—but instead of flopping on the floor, he began to float in the air!
"Emma!" Orangey squeaked in a tiny voice. "The lightning magic has given us one hour to help someone in need!"
Emma's eyes grew wide as Orangey grew bigger and bigger until he was the size of a pillow. "Hop on my back!" he said. "We're going flying!"
They soared through her open window, racing through the storm clouds. Below them, Emma saw something enormous and golden running through the park—a giant bull made entirely of lightning!
"That's Lightning Bull," Orangey explained. "He's lonely because everyone is afraid of his stormy appearance."
They landed gently beside the magnificent creature. Emma's iPhone still glowed in her hand, and she had an idea. She snapped a photo of Lightning Bull with the purple-lit phone. The picture showed not a scary monster, but a beautiful, shimmering friend whose glowing horns left trails of rainbow light wherever he walked.
"See?" Emma showed him. "You're not scary at all. You're magical!"
Lightning Bull's eyes filled with golden tears of happiness. "Nobody has ever wanted to take my picture before."
The three new friends spent the rest of that magical hour running through the rain, playing tag with the lightning bolts, and Emma captured hundreds of photos of their adventures.
When the purple light finally faded from her phone, Orangey shrunk back to his normal size, and Lightning Bull became invisible again—but now Emma knew he was there, glowing quietly in storms. She placed her iPhone on her nightstand, and every thunderstorm after that, Orangey would wiggle his fins, and Emma would smile, knowing her lightning friends were waiting for their next midnight adventure.
