The Goldfish Who Could Fly
Barnaby was no ordinary goldfish. While his friends swam in circles chasing flakes of food, Barnaby spent his days pressing his nose against the glass of his bowl, watching the world beyond.
"Someday," he whispered, creating tiny bubbles that floated upward like tiny silver dreams.
One afternoon, through the window, Barnaby spotted the most peculiar thing: an old steel cable stretching from the backyard fence all the way into the clouds! A scruffy brown dog with floppy ears stood beside it, barking joyfully at something above.
"Hello there, little fish!" called the dog, whose name was Buster. "I'm about to ride the Magic Cable to Sky Kingdom. Want to come?"
Barnaby's eyes widened. "But I'm a fish! I can't leave my bowl!"
Buster's tail wagged so hard his whole body wiggled. "The Magic Cable grants wishes! If you truly want adventure, it will make your dreams come true."
Gathering all his courage, Barnaby made the biggest splash of his life—right out of his bowl! To his amazement, the moment his scales touched the grass, he began to float, swimming through the air as gracefully as he'd ever swum through water.
Together, fish and dog grabbed the cable with their mouths (Barnaby used his gentle fish lips) and WHOOSH! Up they soared, past birds, past clouds, all the way to a floating island in the sky.
There, sleeping peacefully under a rainbow, was the most magnificent creature Barnaby had ever seen—a great golden bull whose horns shimmered like stars.
"Welcome, brave friends," the bull spoke in a voice like gentle thunder. "I am Orion, guardian of the Sky Kingdom. You have traveled far on the Magic Cable. What is your heart's desire?"
Barnaby thought carefully. He could wish to fly forever, or to have all the treasure in the world. But then he looked at Buster, who had given him this gift of adventure, and remembered his fish friends still swimming in circles below.
"I wish," Barnaby said, "that every creature could experience the magic of friendship and the joy of adventure—big or small."
Orion's eyes twinkled with pride. "A wise and kind wish. And so it shall be."
From that day on, Barnaby still swam in his bowl, but now he shared stories of his sky adventure with all his fish friends. Buster visited daily, and sometimes, on clear summer nights, if you looked very carefully at the old steel cable, you might still see it shimmer with magic—waiting for any dreamer brave enough to reach for the stars.
