The Goldfish Who Chased Lightning

Finley was no ordinary goldfish. While other fish swam in lazy circles, Finley liked to explore every corner of Crystal Pond. He had shimmering orange scales that glowed like tiny sunbeams in the water.

One summer evening, the sky turned dark purple. Finley watched from below as jagged bolts of lightning danced across the clouds. Something magical happened when lightning struck the pond — the water sparkled with rainbow colors!

"I must see this up close," Finley whispered.

The next morning, Finley devised a plan. He would be a secret spy and discover where the rainbow sparkles came from. He swam to the pond's edge, where Lily the frog sat on a large orange leaf.

"What are you doing, little fish?" Lily asked.

"I'm on a secret mission," Finley said importantly. "I'm going to spy on the lightning tonight."

Lily laughed kindly. "Lightning isn't something to spy on, Finley. It's part of the storm that brings rain to our pond. Without rain, the water would disappear."

Finley hadn't thought of that. "But the sparkles?"

"Those are just magic," Lily winked. "Some things are wonderful because we don't understand them completely."

That night, Finley waited with Lily. When lightning flashed, he saw the sparkles again — but this time he noticed something new. The raindrops made ripples that carried the sparkles to fish, frogs, and flowers all around the pond. Everyone needed the magic.

Finley realized something important: being a spy wasn't about discovering secrets to keep. It was about learning wonders to share with friends.

From that day on, Finley still explored — but he always brought his discoveries back to share. And every time lightning danced across the sky, he knew the real magic wasn't the sparkles. It was how the whole pond worked together.
